The issue reported on THE STAR, dated 24th July has emerged the importance of Building Surveyors (BS) to be appointed at every District Education Office (PPD) to purposely monitor and carryout regular inspection on every element of the school building and its facilities. The Building Surveyor is the competent personnel equipped with building maintenance and condition survey knowledge which related directly to prevent further damage to the school property. 

As at to date nearly 50 Building Surveyors have been appointed at Public Works Department (PWD) throughout Malaysia. The number shall be increased due to the urgency to have the qualified surveyor to in-charge on Building Maintenance. The fatal accidents related to lack of maintenance must be stopped to restore public confidence especially parents on the maintenance standard practiced at schools. The Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) as the professional body that regulate building surveyor profession should play vital roles to bring this issue as national issue and to close the gap by promoting BS as a right profession to be installed at every District Education Office, State Education Office as well as Ministry of Education (MOE). In average school in Malaysia house for nearly 5 million students and 600 thousands of teachers from 7am until 2pm on daily basis for 5 days a week. The number itself reflects, the significant of the issues to be well treated by the Authorities and at the same time not to jeopardized the school intended purpose to provide early education for every Malaysian.
